What is the role of a security administrator and why should I appoint one?Open this section

If there is only one person processing your payroll, you probably don't need a security administrator. You can secure your software by setting up an entry password.

If you operate a payroll department employing several people, you should consider appointing a security administrator to manage the security of your software. They can set up user security accounts and passwords.

See Securing your software.

The level of security needed is up to you. If you've set up an entry password, everyone who uses the software needs to know that password. If you want to secure your software further, you can create security accounts. For more information, see the Getting Started section in the help topic Securing your software.

What are access rights?Open this section

Access rights are a way of preventing people from accessing parts of your software.

For example, if an assistant performs data entry tasks, they may not need access to the Enter Payments option to process your employees pay. This task might be performed by someone in a senior position.

For more information, see Managing security accounts.

Can I change the access rights of the MANAGER security nameOpen this section?

No. The MANAGER security name is used by your security administrator to gain full access to your software so they can manage the security accounts of those using the software.

I have forgotten my user name and password, what should I do?Open this section

Contact your security administrator. They will be able to provide you with your user name and reset your password.

If the password you've forgotten is the one associated with the MANAGER user name, and either MANAGER is the only user account that exists, or is the only user account with access to Security, you'll need to send a backup of your data to Technical Support in order for your password to be decoded. To find out more, contact Technical Support on 0845 111 55 55.
